Barry Gidney

Barry C. Gidney, 57, has over 34 years of experience in the real estate lending industry, having originated and funded more than $15 billion in mortgages. He currently serves as Assistant Vice President and Team Director of Commercial Mortgages at Canada’s largest non-bank lender, where he has worked as a mortgage banker for the past 29 years. In addition, Barry is the founder and owner of Fundy Capital Management Inc., a real estate investment firm established in 1999. Fundy Capital partially owns and manages a portfolio exceeding $300 million, comprising of 73 properties, 800,000 square feet of commercial space, 1,055 residential units.

Over the past 15 years, the firm has co-developed and constructed more than 1,000 apartment units in Halifax, Moncton, and Winnipeg. In response to the growing affordable housing crisis in Atlantic Canada, Barry founded Atlantic Non-Profit Housing to help preserve and protect the region’s existing housing stock. The organization is dedicated to acquiring multi-residential properties at risk of turnover or redevelopment and maintaining them at affordable rental levels. Its mission is to provide long-term, stable housing for low-to-moderate income families, seniors, and working individuals, ensuring housing remains accessible and communities remain inclusive. Barry is also the sole owner and Chief Executive Officer of Gidney Fisheries Limited, a Nova Scotia-based seafood company that has been engaged in the wholesale distribution of lobster and seafood for over 130 years. Gidney Fisheries buys lobsters from over 75 independent lobster fishermen in Atlantic Canada and ships them worldwide. In recent years, the company has expanded into high-pressure processed (HPP) raw frozen lobster, while also increasing its live inventory holding capacity to 500,000 pounds. This new facility and technology have allowed Gidney Fisheries to be the market leader in raw frozen lobster, which is the highest quality product available in the industry.
